General Introduction:
Tom Lombardo has been an award-winning professional educator for over thirty years. He has supervised college faculty, designed innumerable college courses, as well as complete undergraduate and graduate programs, and chaired various academic departments. Aside from in-person teaching experience, Dr. Lombardo has designed several Internet college courses, and taught Internet courses for the last ten years. He has developed various programs of college competencies and commensurate systems of assessment. He has also done academic and career counseling with both undergraduate and graduate students. Overall, Dr. Lombardo has considerable expertise and experience in curriculum design and faculty supervision.
Dr. Lombardo’s disciplinary background is very broad, well balanced between the humanities and the sciences, and highly integrative. He holds degrees in both psychology and philosophy, and has also studied extensively intellectual history, evolutionary theory, cosmology, the philosophy of time, science fiction and, most recently, futurist literature ranging from the future of science and technology to the future of human society, culture, and religion. Dr. Lombardo has taught courses and given numerous professional presentations in all of these areas. He has also worked in academic, clinical training, and mental health settings, and is well versed in theories and practices of human growth, personal development, and self-fulfillment.
Dr. Lombardo began designing courses on the future and teaching the future in 1993. Since that time, he has also supervised college faculty in the teaching of futures education. He was awarded a grant to develop a Futures Institute at Maricopa Community Colleges in 1996 and developed a website in the following year. He is a member of several futurist professional organizations and has numerous publications in the study of the future. (See below). In 2003 he created his own futurist website which contains a wealth of information and readings on the future.
With his wife, Jeanne Belisle Lombardo, Dr. Lombardo created the Center For Future Consciousness in 2008, an educational organization dedicated to the enlightened evolution of humanity through the enhancement of future consciousness. The Center For Future Consciousness applies a unique and powerful synthesis of contemporary psychology, philosophy, and science to educational programs designed to help individuals and organizations increase their understanding of the future and constructively approach its challenges and possibilities. Collaborating on presentations, workshops, and educational events nationally and internationally, Tom and Jeanne serve the Center’s mission of guiding and facilitating the growth of future consciousness.
